Frequently asked questions

Will water drain through it?

Yes. The backing is perforated so rain clears at about the rate a real lawn would, as long as the base underneath is free draining.

Is it safe for dogs and children?

Yes. The fibres are non-toxic and lead-free, and it rinses clean with a hose.

What if my garden is wider than one roll?

The calculator works it out and pairs rolls from the same batch, so the colour and pile match and the join does not show.

How long are the rolls?

Up to 25m. Widths vary by range, and the calculator only offers the ones that range is actually made in.

Can I lay it myself?

Most customers do. Our step-by-step guide covers laying onto soil and onto concrete or slabs.

Does it fade in the sun?

Every range carries a 10 year UV warranty, so the colour holds through British summers.

How much does artificial grass cost per square metre?

Our 14 ranges run from £7.49 per square metre (Rocco 18mm) to £21 (Dluxe 40mm), all including VAT. A 4m by 6m lawn is 24 square metres, so £179.76 to £504 in grass; add roughly £6 to £8 per square metre for the aggregate base, membrane, tape and sand if you lay it yourself, or £25 to £45 per square metre for a fitter. The artificial grass price list has every range and three worked lawn costs.

Which pile height should I choose?

18mm to 30mm for paths, balconies, dog runs and anything that gets hosed down often. 35mm to 38mm for a family lawn: enough pile to look like a mown lawn and still stand back up after children and furniture. 40mm and over for a lush show lawn or a soft play surface that is walked on less. Longer pile flattens sooner under heavy use, so the busiest gardens do best on 30mm to 38mm. See short pile, medium pile and long pile artificial grass.

What widths does artificial grass come in?

Every range is made 2m and 4m wide, all but one in 5m, five ranges in 3m and two in 1m. Measure the shorter side of the space and pick the first roll width that covers it, so the lawn is one piece with no join: a 3.5m garden takes a 4m roll, a 2.8m one takes 3m. Shop 1m, 2m, 3m, 4m or 5m wide artificial grass, or use the room calculator.

Which artificial grass is best for dogs?

A 30mm to 38mm pile with a fully permeable backing: Talya 30mm for two or more dogs, Dan 38mm for a family lawn with one dog, Rocco 18mm for a dedicated run. Urine drains straight through and a hose clears the rest. Our pet friendly artificial grass ranges are made without zinc, benzene or arsenic, and the best artificial grass for dogs guide ranks them.

What goes under artificial grass?

On soil: 50mm of compacted MOT type 1, 25mm of sharp sand screeded level, a weed membrane, then the grass, with 4 to 5kg of kiln-dried sand per square metre brushed in. On concrete, paving or decking: a 10mm shockpad underlay and adhesive or tape, no digging. Both are in the how to lay artificial grass guide, and the artificial grass accessories page has the membrane, pegs, tape, adhesive and shockpad.

How is it delivered and how long does it take?

The grass is cut to your length, rolled, and delivered kerbside on a pallet or by courier in 2 to 4 working days. Delivery is free on orders over £190 and £30 below that; samples post free with £2.99 postage. Rolls over 4m long are heavy, so have someone to help carry it round the house. Order free artificial grass samples first if you want to see the colour before you commit.
