Is luxury carpet worth it on stairs?

A heavy twist, yes: it is the carpet that still looks new on the stairs at year ten. A luxury saxony is better kept for the rooms you sit and lie in.

Does it need a better underlay?

Any luxury carpet deserves a good underlay. A thick, dense underlay adds comfort and stops the carpet flattening on the walked routes.
