What a clad wall costs
One board covers 0.565 square metres, so a wall takes about 1.8 boards per square metre, £44.25 per square metre in boards. A 2.4m high by 4m wide garden-room wall is 9.6 square metres: 17 boards with 10% for cuts, £425. Add treated or composite battens at 400mm to 600mm centres (five rows on a 2.4m wall) and colour-matched screws. Composite cladding costs more than featheredge timber on day one and less by year three, because there is no painting, staining or replacing split boards.
How it fixes
Boards go on horizontally or vertically over battens, leaving a 20mm ventilation gap behind the cladding and a breathable membrane on any habitable building. Fix every board at every batten with two screws, leave 4mm between board ends for movement, and finish corners and window reveals with matching composite L trim. The boards cut with a normal wood saw and need no end sealing. The composite decking installation guide covers battens and clips the same way for walls.
