Anthracite is a dark grey with a hint of blue-black, and two of our eight finishes sit either side of it: Grey, a mid-dark grey, and Black, which settles to a deep charcoal after its first summer. Both are 3.6m (£25) and 4.8m (£34) hollow reversible boards, about £46 per square metre, with hidden clips and a ten-year warranty. Free samples of each, so you can hold them against the house before you decide.
Which one is closer depends on what you are matching. Anthracite window frames, doors and fencing are usually RAL 7016, a dark grey that reads almost black in shade and clearly grey in sun. Against those, our Grey is the match most customers choose: it stays grey in every light, hides dust and footprints, and does not fight with the frames. Black is the choice when you want the deck darker than the joinery, as a backdrop for planting or against pale porcelain paving. It shows pale dust sooner and suits a deck that gets swept.
Both lighten slightly in the first few months outdoors and then hold, which is normal for composite and covered by the warranty.
