Buy Oak Composite Cladding

Family garden with artificial grass, a play teepee and a fire pit seating area

Key facts. One oak finish, honeyed and traditional, the closest of our seven colours to freshly oiled timber. Ash, a paler driftwood grey, is on the full cladding page. Boards are 3.6m long by 157mm wide, £25 each including VAT, about 1.8 boards and £44 per square metre of wall. Embossed woodgrain face, fixed to a batten frame, no painting or treating, ten-year warranty. Free samples, free delivery over £190, delivered in 2 to 4 working days.

Oak cladding suits a period house, red or buff brick, sandstone paving and cottage planting, and it is the most forgiving finish for dust and pollen. Timber oak cladding looks like this for one season and then needs oiling every spring; composite oak keeps the colour for the life of the board with a wash each year. In deep shade a pale board shows green algae sooner than a dark one, so give a north-facing oak wall a rinse each spring.

A 2.4m by 3m wall is about 13 boards, £325 delivered free. It matches the oak composite decking board for board, and an oak wall above a grey or chocolate deck is a classic two-tone garden room. Order the free sample and look at it against the brickwork in evening light before you order the wall.

Frequently asked questions

How many cladding boards do I need per square metre?

About 1.8. Each board covers 0.57 square metres (3.6m by 157mm), so divide the wall area by 0.57, add 10 percent for cuts, and round up. A 2.4m high by 4m wide wall is 9.6 square metres, 17 boards.

What does composite cladding fix to?

Treated timber or composite battens screwed to the wall at 400mm to 600mm centres, with a breathable membrane behind on a habitable building and a gap for air to move. Boards fix to the battens with colour-matched screws or clips, horizontally or vertically.

Does the colour match the decking?

Yes. The cladding is made from the same wood fibre and recycled plastic as our decking, in the same finishes, so a wall and a deck bought together settle to the same shade. Every colour costs the same.

Does it need painting or treating?

No. The colour is through the board and the surface is UV-stabilised, so there is nothing to paint, stain or oil. Brush off dust and wash with soapy water once a year. Ten-year warranty.
